Darcy aka Bobby faced a life-death situation on June 1st, 2011, Darcy says “I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. (IPF) This is a disease that affects the air sacs in your lungs called alveoli. Essentially, they shrivel up and die off. They cannot be rejuvenated or repaired and there is no cure. You end up suffocating to death over time. I was on oxygen for 2.5 years before I had a successful double lung transplant on January 30th, 2015. Thanks to the generosity of a donor and their family I am able to lead a normal life.”
“I now make my living as a singer. Before my TP I was able to sing but could not hang on to the long notes. It was difficult to sing because of many coughing fits I had during the day. But, I still carried on to the best of my ability.
I am also a Lung Ambassador for the BC Lung Association where I interview people living with Asthma. COPD, IPF and other chronic lung diseases. They share their journey on the Lung Assn’s online newsletter.”
