0045 Tracy MacGee on permission to have our feelings

Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her guest Tracy MacGee on our permission to have our Feelings AND OVERCOME ADDICTION. .Aired 09-10-2013

Our best chance of moving through pain is to validate our feelings without judging them.  We can have our feelings, without our feelings having us.  Judgement only comes into play if we act inappropriately on our feelings.

It is vital to recognize that feelings are a reflection of our current situation and our attachment to what has been lost or threatened. The pain we feel is valid and understandable.  Working through our pain begins with permission; permission to have our feelings, whatever they are.

Healing occurs when we are surrounded by people we trust, who listen to our pain, allow us our tears, and hold us (physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and prayerfully) while we work through the struggle.

Acceptance and Peace can be achieved through the therapeutic process.

I am a psychologist (LLP) with a speciality in alcohol & drug abuse (SPADA). I’ve spent the last 23 years of my career serving those and their loved ones who struggle with addiction, suicide, death; and the accompanying feelings of depression, anxiety, and panic.

My career has spanned the entire continuum of care for mental health & addiction:  suicide crisis phone counselling, emergency room, critical care, detox unit, inpatient psychiatry, and long term rehabilitation.  I also developed an Intensive Dual Diagnosed IOP for those who struggle with mental illness and addiction.

I’ve penned a self-help memoir entitled, “Hurry Before the Snow Flies”. I also wrote and recorded “Where Did You Go?” A song about the heartache one feels after losing a loved one.

I’ve recently opened The Comfort Boutique & Counseling Center in Grand Rapids. The Comfort Boutique offers specialized memorial gifts to help those during the active grieving process. In the Counseling Center, I offer individual, couples, family, and group counselling.  For the public, I also offer complimentary mini seminars on addiction, suicide grief, depression, anxiety, and panic.
